Thursday, 3 September, 6:30-9:00pm Chapel First day of Chapel Choir auditions. Each candidate will have a 15 minute slot. Auditions are simple and friendly. They consist of one or two pieces chosen by singer (accompanied or not), a sight-reading component, and a brief conversation. E-mail the Director to sign up for a time-slot.

Wednesday, 9 September, 5:00pm Chapel The first of the Choral Services in the Chapel for this term, 'Choral Evensong', featuring our own King's College Chapel Choir. This is a 45 minute Choral offering. All welcome. Persons of all traditions appreciate the beauty of this Liturgy of the Hours (adapted from the ancient monastic office).
Thursday, 10 September, 5:00pm Chapel The first of our 'now for something completely different' Choral Solemn Eucharists, featuring our own Chapel Choir again for a 'liturgy-heavy' Medieval-based rite. Again, much loveliness. All welcome to participate in whatsoever way: from merely listening to joining in with music, to praying throughout.

Candle-lit and joyous, this traditional service of Lessons and Carols has a long history at King's. Every year students and faculty join together in preparation for Christmas to reflect on each lesson read and carol sung. Seating is limited, come early.

The President's Lodge SAMS is the oldest student society at King's, and it has always been actively supported by the chapel community. SAMS works to co-ordinate King's students with the activities of various volunteer groups in Halifax, and is making a glorious comeback this term, with wine and cheese! Join us, a number of Halifax's most esteemed volunteer organizations, and some of your favourite faculty for a night of fun, information and calming background music. All welcome.

Chapel The King's College Chapel Concert Series continues with popular Halifax singer/songstress Becky Siamon. Becky has played with many Halifax groups, and her song writing is heavily influenced by the country-esque ballads of John Prince and the melodic saucyness found in jazz standards. A free will offering will be taken up in support of The Student Refuge Programme 2010, a program at King's established to sponsor a refugee on campus each year, beginning in Sept 2009.

Chapel 'TALKS FOR EPIPHANY' led by Dr Wayne Hankey, Carnegie Professor and Chair of Classics. Dr Hankey delivered a series of talks throughout the day on: 'God's Care for Us': The Common Doctrine of Holy Scripture, Faith, and Reason as taught in the Consolation of Philosophy of St Boethius and by Moses Maimonides in the Guide of the Perplexed.
Wednesday, 21 January, 7:30 pm Alumni Hall, King's College Extra FYP lecture by chapel Music Director Paul Halley. Halley spoke about J.S. Bach and his St John's Passion, as part of a series of lectures focused on topics that supplement the Foundation Year Programme. More info...
Monday, 12 January, 2 pm Senior Common Room, King's College The Prospects for Israeli-Palestinian Peace: An Israeli Activist Speaks: A talk by Dr. Jeff Halper, Co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by the American Friends Service Committee.

Sunday, 7 December, 11am Chapel The annual HMCS Scotian Naval Church Parade. Each year in December young reservists from HMCS Scotian (many of them university students) parade to the Chapel for a Sunday morning worship.

The guest preacher was Cdr Robert Humble, Navy Formation Chaplain CFB Halifax and Joint Task Force Atlantic Senior Chaplain. Everyone is welcome to this yearly event. And see a description of King's close relation to the Navy as HMCS King's, 1939-45.

Sunday, 9 November, 4pm-5pm Senior Common Room THE CRISIS IN SUDAN: Barnaba Okony Gilo is Program Director of an NGO, Mak-deel, in South Sudan. He is currently a student at the Coady Institute in Antigonish. Gilo spoke about the situation in Sudan, and the SCR was filled with listeners.

Thursday, 6 November, 6:30pm Senior Common Room Two King's students discussed their experience in Israel and Palestine. Phil Taber and Katie Merwin presented photographs and personal stories about their summer in the Middle East witnessing the harsh realities of, according to the United Nations, the world's oldest and largest refugee situation.
