A look back at some Chapel events: The Fall Retreats

2008 Fall Retreat: Canoeing the Annapolis River

2007 Fall Retreat: St Anne's camp, Gibson Lake, NS

For the past two years the Chapel has sponsored a Fall Retreat as a community building adventure to welcome new students and deepen spiritual friendships.

The slide show of the Fall 2007 Thanksgiving Retreat gives a visual impression of the Retreat at Gibson's Lake, Annapolis County. The Retreat conductor was Father Walter Hannam, Professor of Anglican theology at the Theological College of Emmanuel and St Chad, Saskatoon, who introduced the spirituality of the Desert Fathers during a weekend of canoeing, hiking, worship and prayer.

On the Thanksgiving Weekend 2008 forty students from King's/Dal canoed the Annapolis River from Paradise to Annapolis Royal. Sunday's paddle was forty kilometres – a beautiful yet demanding paddle for some of the less experienced canoeists. Along the way the students camped, carrying their tents and all their provisions in the canoes. Holy Communion was celebrated each day (at 6 a.m. in the campground on one morning), and the singing of Compline by candlelight whilst gently moving down river (with canoes tied together) was a moment that all will remember. Ron Haflidson, FYP tutor, gave two very helpful addresses on creation spirituality in the poetry of Mary Oliver and Wendell Berry. The slideshow doesn't have a group photo, but captures something of the spirit of the Weekend.
