The Chapel Choir of the University of King's College, under the direction of five-time Grammy winner Paul Halley, will present its third “A King's Christmas” on Friday, December 10th at St John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, on Saturday, December 11th at Wolfville Baptist Church, Wolfville, and on Sunday, December 12th at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Halifax, with guest narrator Eleanor Wachtel, host of CBC Radio's Writers & Company.

The first “A King's Christmas” concert was declared “an unquestioned tradition maker” in the Chronicle Herald, and last year's sold-out concert was equally well received. This year's concert sees the addition of a new venue in Wolfville and the very welcome presence of Eleanor Wachtel as narrator.

In the beautiful settings and wonderful acoustics of St John's, Wolfville Baptist and All Saints churches, the superbly trained King's Chapel Choir will perform carols both old and new, including works by Herbert Howells, Thomas Tallis and the contemporary “mystic”, Arvo Pärt. Halley's own carol, “Agnus Dei,” will also be performed, together with his arrangement of the Appalachian carol, “Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head.” Favourite carols such as “Once in Royal David's City” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” will give the audience an opportunity to join in the singing.

CBC Radio's host of Writers & Company, Eleanor Wachtel, will intersperse the music with a selection of poetry and prose readings that encapsulate all the hopes, humour and poignancy of the season.

Tickets for the Halifax concert can be purchased from the King’s Co-op Bookstore (902.422.1271 ext 261) and cost $35 (priority), $25 (general) and $15 (student). All proceeds will go to the King's Chapel Music Programme, which includes 14 choral scholarships. Patron tickets are also available at $75 for those who wish to make a special contribution to the fund; $40 of this amount will be tax-deductible as a charitable donation. Doors open 6.45.

Tickets for the Lunenburg concert can be purchased from Fulton's Pharmacy in Lunenburg, or by calling 902.634.9994. Adults $20 and students $10 at the door. Tickets for the Wolfville concert can be purchased from Box of Delights or by calling 902.542.9511. Adults $20 and students $10 at the door.

Last year's concerts were sold out. Early booking is recommended.
