About Chapel services

There is a lot of regular worship in the Chapel, in which all people from the College and beyond are very welcome to participate, regardless of their faith affiliation.

Here's an outline of our regular weekly services:

Choral Evensong is a traditional service that consists only of beautiful choral music and lessons. Led by the Choir, this non-Eucharistic service features music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, right up to contemporary composers. It is held every Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Solemn Eucharist is something completely different. Inspired and informed by the medieval Eucharistic liturgies, this is a traditional Anglican High Mass featuring the full Choir, bells, incense and more. This service includes a sermon offered by the Chaplain, another member of the College, or a visitor. It is held every Thursday at 5 p.m.

Compline is a short worship service held late at night in a candlelit chapel. Sung informally by Nick Halley with students, it features beautiful, contemplative chants and melodies. Stop by just to listen or to sing along, every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.

Sunday Holy Communion features a smaller choir as well as student musicians, and is usually celebrated by the Chaplain or the Rev'd Dr Thomas Curran. The preacher is often a guest speaker from within the College. It is held on Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

Daily Holy Communion is an important part of the life of the Chapel. These quiet Services of Holy Communion (approximately twenty-five minutes) are contemplative in nature, offering time of reflection on the Scripture readings and receiving the Sacrament of the Lord. This simple, quiet worship is sometimes attended by very few students apart from the priest and server, but they are yet another important occasion to lift up daily prayers for the life of the College, its students, the surrounding Community, and the world. On Wednesdays the Noon Eucharist is a contemporary liturgy.

Sunday Evenings often feature a meditative, non-denominational service of musical and literary offerings, led by students along with local artists, musicians and guests. This occasional service is currently held on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. (when advertised only).

The Daily Offices are said daily by students, and are the quiet backbone of the Chapel's life. The bell rings daily at Morning Prayer, Mid-Day Prayers and Evening Prayer, as students uphold the College in a regular rhythm of prayer and contemplation.

In addition to the regular schedule, special services are held at various times during the seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Lent, and during Holy Week.

All are welcome to use the Chapel at other times, for silent meditation or prayer.

How to get involved

There are many ways to be involved in Chapel worship services -- as an altar server at one of the weekly services, learning to lead the Daily Offices, and other ways too. Please let the Chaplain know if you are interested -- he'd love to hear from you!
